Fleetwood Town could welcome Andy Cannon and Ronan Coughlan back into the squad for this weekend's League Two fixture away at Chesterfield, with the pair due to be assessed after the final two days of training. Head Coach Matt Lawlor revealed that Cannon and Coughlan have resumed training and are the closest of Town's injured players to returning, although a decision on their availability will not be made until nearer the game.

"We're hoping to have one or two back for the weekend," Lawlor said. "We're not quite sure just yet if they will be available. Obviously, they've got to get through the next two days of training."
Why it matters for Fleetwood Town
The remaining injuries are considered short term, with the latest expected return currently set for around the middle of September. Lawlor stressed that those coming back will still need time to regain full sharpness after missing significant parts of pre-season.
What comes next?
Town will now prepare to face Chesterfield for the second successive weekend, this time away from home in League Two. Lawlor expects a different contest and wants his side to build on the cup victory by being more assured in possession while limiting the hosts' attacking threat.
