Newport County midfielder Ciaran Brennan has highlighted the importance of home support as his side prepares to host an unbeaten Fleetwood Town. The Cods travel to Rodney Parade sitting seventh in League Two with 10 points from six games, having not lost in their last five outings.
Brennan, who has started alongside Cameron Evans in all but one of Newport's matches this term, acknowledged the challenge posed by Fleetwood's form. "At home you can see it, we feed off the fans and the crowd," he said. The Exiles will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat at Northampton last weekend.
Brennan's philosophy
The midfielder was clear about the style of play he believes supporters want to see. "There's no point in having possession just to pass around the back," Brennan stated. "Fans don't pay to see that. When I was a kid, I didn't want to watch that." He added that his team must be smarter in possession to relieve pressure effectively.
Fleetwood's resilience was evident in their last meeting with Newport, a 1-1 draw on September 12th where Aaron Loupalo-Bi netted a second-half equaliser. Their solid start has them just two points behind leaders Barnet, with seven goals scored and only four conceded.
Newport boss Hayden Mullins will be demanding a response from his players. Brennan confirmed the team's intent, saying, "We will be looking to get right after them as always, get the crowd behind us and, see where it takes us."
