Shrewsbury Town have been drawn away to League Two rivals Fleetwood Town for their next Carabao Cup match. The draw was made on Monday, with Shrewsbury missing out on potential ties against several Premier League clubs.

The competition remains regionalised into northern and southern sections until the third-round stage. Despite missing out on a chance to face top-flight sides like Newcastle United, Everton, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, and Hull City, Town will now travel to Fleetwood for their second-round fixture.

Potential Opponents and Draw Outcome

Town secured their place in round two by beating Salford City 1-0 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. However, they were left disappointed with the draw outcome, as several Premier League clubs entered the competition at this stage. Other potential opponents included Championship sides such as Wolves, West Brom, Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Sheffield Wednesday.

Instead of facing a top-flight side, Town will now travel to Fleetwood, who beat Chesterfield 1-0 in their opening match. The second-round fixtures are scheduled for the week commencing Monday, August 24.
