Adam Murphy completed his second EFL loan move on 21 August 2026, joining Fleetwood Town from Bristol City on a six-month deal. The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland youth international called the transfer a 'no-brainer' after speaking with manager Matt Lawlor, who outlined his role in the team's attacking play. 'It was a no-brainer for me,' Murphy said. 'Once I spoke to the gaffer and he explained how he wants us to play, I felt it aligned with my strengths.'
Murphy, who previously spent part of the 2025 season on loan at Swindon Town, cited Fleetwood's links with Waterford as a key factor in his decision. 'I was aware of Fleetwood because of the club’s links with Waterford while I was playing in the League of Ireland,' he explained. 'The league gave me a really good foundation before I moved to England.' His early career included stints at Donnycarney United, Belvedere, and St Patrick’s Athletic, where he made his senior debut at 16 and captained the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.
The midfielder, who signed his first professional contract at 16, became St Pat’s youngest starter in 2023 after recovering from a hamstring injury. He helped the club win the FAI Cup before joining Bristol City in January 2024. Murphy’s loan to Swindon was cut short by an ankle injury, but he praised the experience and former manager Ian Holloway. 'He’s a legend of the game and I really enjoyed working under him,' he said. 'He taught us a lot about how to conduct ourselves in life.'
Murphy emphasized his desire to contribute immediately at Highbury. 'I want to play, and I want to help the club in whatever way I can, offensively and defensively,' he said. 'If I can return to Bristol City with plenty of games and minutes in my legs after helping the club, I’ll be happy.' His focus on energy and work rate aligns with Lawlor’s tactical approach, with the manager’s familiarity with Irish football and Murphy’s playing style forming a strong foundation for their partnership.
