AFC Fylde have signed National League champion Greg Olley, the former Gateshead captain who helped York City win the title last season. The 29‑year‑old midfielder joined the Coasters ahead of their upcoming match against Woking on Saturday.
Olley was part of the York City squad that were crowned National League champions last season, but he did not feature in the Minstermen’s squad for Saturday’s League Two opener with Bristol Rovers. He has now joined Fylde as they prepare to return to the top flight of non‑league football.
In a statement on the Coasters’ official website, Olley said: “It’s a privilege to be here, I’m very excited to get going. I’ve had a very positive pre‑season and can’t wait to translate that to league games. Hopefully we can do something special this season. Along with my experience of last season, getting out of the league, the manager’s mentality and the club’s ambition, it should be an exciting year!”
The transfer also follows Carlisle United’s recent signings, including Fleetwood Town centre‑back Toby Mullarkey, as manager Rob Elliot looks to strengthen his squad for the upcoming season.
